Wood Racks finished
I have finally manufactured and installed the Racking for my timber.
The racks are constructed from 40mmx40mmx2.5mm wall and welded together.
Pic 1 Unpainted
Pic 2 Painted
Pic 3 Racks mounted on Rear Wall
Pic 4 Racks mounted on Side Wall
After fixing them to the walls with M10 Chemset bolts, I tested them for strength. I weigh just short of 100kg and was able to do chin ups from the shelf pieces and they didn't flex or move at all. All up they give me about 14 square metres of Racking Area
Costs
Steel $440.00
Paint $24.00
Chemset Bolts $92.00
Tube End Caps $84.00
Total $640.00

Brilliant!!!! Looks like you've got at least 3 times the racking space I've got and for a very acceptable cost. The big question, how long will it take for them to be filled?
cheers

Timber in Racks
I have now put timber into the racks. A lot of the racks are tken up with scrap pieces...just so I could get them off the floor. I will get rid of them over time.

The slabs are Cadargi (not sure of the spelling) similar in grain to Burdekin Plum

Ingenious! And brilliantly executed.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

WD,
My shed is in the Industrial Area just 4 minutes away from home and some of the other Unit owners have offered me the use of their Forklift when ever I want. In fact there are about 5 ppl with Forklits in this complex. So that takes care of the lifting and think about it....how many times would I need to get them down.
As to the tidiness of the shed, that pic was taken just after I put the racks up and I transferred the wood from the Mezzanine Floor above, so I had to clean it up to move the lifting gear I hired to move the timber. You should see it this evening after a weedend of sawdust making.
