Has anyone switched to the Greater for that holiday deal ?
On TV all the time. Haven't been to Fiji. Whats the catch? , cause apparently there is no catch , even though it sounds like a load of crap.
Where'd you go ? What you think ? ..... Did the buggers start pointing out any fine print when you got back ?

Don't you watch TV Al ? .....probably a good idea. Waste of time.
These Ads come up all the time, about home loans offered by the Greater credit union.....saying that if you switch your home loan over to them, they give you a free holiday, without any bank fees etc......And I thought maybe Fiji could be nice.

G'day Jake,
Don't touch it, I know the ad agency that do the account, they're a nasty bunch, the agency not the bank.

noooa, what are you on about.....you go to Fiji, stay in something swish, try your hardest to not perv while the misses is about......and come home to the same house you left from. And it doesn't cost you a cent.
But, Chris says its rubbish. So I don't know what to think.

G'day Jake,
The Greater have a good rap for what they do, if you're seriously looking at it check the fine print and see what the repayments are etc.
If you want a free holiday, then next time an Indian rings up with an offer with a holiday...
But don't trust me, I'm a bad boy if you have a look.

Jake,
as a rule, nothing is free. The money for ther holiday has to come from somewhere, and in ther long run it will be your pocket. If you're thinking of changing the mortgage get the missus to do all the comparisons (including any penalties from your present institution) but don't take the holiday into account when comparing. Then, if all else is equal (or maybe even better) go ahead and change.

Jake, I did the comparisons a couple of years ago when looking for a mortgage. Was new to NSW and hadn't heard of the Greater.
Their mortgage came up best so i went with them.
The free holiday is just that. It's great.
It's not a holiday, its points towards any accomodation or travel listed in a large book they provide. The more you borrow the more points you get.
The holiday to Fiji is what you can get for the average home loan amount. I think.
I used my points for accomodation and flights all over Australia over a period of two years.
I know nothing is free but it's not the customer paying for this stuff.
No catch as far as i can see.
(Not affiliated blah blah)Those were the droids I was looking for.

For those in Victoria and probably all other states other than NSW The Greater Newcastle Building Society which is it's full name is based in Newcastle and is slowly opening branches all over NSW. The deal is probably not available in other states.
Further to that I was watching a program maybe current affair that did a survey of all the loan sharks out there and the free holiday deal is paid for by a slightly higher interest rate than the others.
They reckoned there was better deals around on house loans than that but I suppose if you are desperate for a holiday and you haven't got the readies for it I suppose you could take up the deal.

Jake I was being too subtle , theres no such thing as a free lunch , thus theres no free holiday, if you want to switch loans get a good morgage broker and look at all the figures over the full term of the loan along with other benifits offered and then decide, my daughter just bought her first home last december and the greater was about 4th even factoring in the "free holiday"
