Email Nazis

I wrote an email to a mate this afternoon. He works for a government organisation and they have one of those email filters in place. In the email, I mentioned that I was looking forward to the long weekend but that I just wished all the tourists would p@$$ off home. Mildly offensive language I know but not likely to offend him.

Needless to say, my email was knocked back by the Mail Nazi. I received a rejection note, copied to him. The note contained the details of the reason and even included the offending phrase verbatim

How ridiculous is that? What was the point of filtering it, only to send not one but two emails with the same phrase repeated.

To make matters worse, I was replying to his email in which he had wished me a Happy Easter. So he receives this note from his mail server telling him my note was rejected because it contained the phrase "p@$$ off". He writes back to me, forwarding the rejection note, saying what's all this about? Interestingly, the Mail Nazi lets him send an email with that phrase in it, so it's obviously OK for public servants to insult members of the public but not the other way around.

I reply to him with my original reply and the offending bit censored but forget to delete the attached part of his note that still contains the offending phrase as reported by the Mail Nazi. Of course, it's rejected again, so now he thinks I've told him to p@$$ off twice! In the end I had to ring and explain.

I tell ya, sometimes I wonder if it's all worth it in the end.

There's a bit in today's Herald about a mother whose email to her daughter was blocked because it was deemed pornographic... she signed off "with love XXX".

It's no use sending me pornography...I haven't got a pornogram to play it on.

It's off. There are no *'s or @'s or $$'s in the word. It's just plain old OFF!!!! and not really offensive to most ........ Bloody hell!:mad:

I recall a couple of years ago you had a little filter in place to remove offending words......................complete with it's own little set of problems, eg:
My dog is a ****zu.
Sparse became sp****
Etc Etc.
I also recall finding a way around it with double spacing and writing

But then, I don't own this BB and I certainly can't assume that I'm above censorship as my posts shows. Check who last edited my posts before you use offensive words like

We still have censored words but isn't one of them. Some of the words that are censored are - ****, ****, **** *******, ******** and ****.

So there!

Hovo - Lighten up I was having a tongue in cheek go at you and others. 's not anal, he just didn't want the Silent one to feel hurt and dejected.

Ok, my turn. (and my opinions)...

swearing is ok, its the intention that matters, for instance I could call you a bastard and you'd probably laugh it off, but I could say the same thing to a kid in a orphanage and he'd be humiliated. Intent and understanding of the insult... right ?

I am rude, crude and vulgar (see any of my posts... particularly the flame about monarchists and politicians) but most of the people on this board (and even the planet) are reasonably intelligent/astute and can probably tell what your intention is. I feel its just the wowsers, noddy no-friends, feminists, lesbians, poofters, lawyers, flatfeet, public servants, ambulance chasers etc etc... who see the worst in people as a first impression that cause the problem... look at all the litigation we are suffering from - too many examples to mention....

I bet no sweary filter will pick up the adjectives I used describing certain occupations and personal lifestyle choices but I bet I've offended more people with that than calling a mate a right mongrel or a complete bastard!

PS : The author of this post did not mean to offend any wowsers, noddy no-friends, feminists, lesbians, poofters, lawyers, flatfeet, public servants or ambulance chasers in this post - the terms used are simply to illistrate the authors point of view. after all some of my best friends are wowsers, noddy no-friends, feminists, lesbians, poofters, lawyers, flatfeet, public servants or ambulance chasers....

Any more and I'd have been floating away.
SilentC is a great bloke and he and I constantly tease each other, especially regarding shakespeare.
As for , he does a great job and takes my bulls@#$ in the way I intend it, even if it means he has to admit to being as anal as Silent's mate's filter!
Are you, as the boss, the only one allowed to be tongue in cheek? (as long as that is face cheek and not the other type

)
