    Default A stitch in time...

Aussie has a bleak future as far as water is concerned, in melb we are told the water storage is around 39.7%....10% less than this time last year ....and its already having an effect .....as a chef I keep my ears open, and when I cannot buy a 25kg bag of milk powder ....or vast quantities of parsley ....then things are crook ....milk is in short supply now and the cream quality is vastly reduced ....in short ...we are on a meltdown .....and in the coming weeks when the weather gets warmer, it will get worse ..we have had petrol rationing ....dont be suprised if we have milk rationing as well in the coming summer ....
the power companies are already complaining that they dont have enough water to cool the generators .....well......when summer hits .....expect power outs .....
I am told by good industry sources that the growers cannot supply parsley in great numbers because they are using their water rations to grow other staple food supplies ....like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers ect, herbs are on a low priority list ....milk is in short supply ...simply because there is not enough grass for the cows to eat ...

I have been buying water in 15ltr containers(drinking water) and setting up water storage (recycled from the washing machine)to water my veggie garden.....I also bought portable power generators to run my fridge and freezer with in a power out.....I also bought longlife milk and dairy products for the next six months ......I dont want to be an alarmist, but it would be prudent to sit back and reflect on your own circumstances, and take actions now ...when the news hits ......and usually its way to late ....the shelves will be stripped bare ......and they will probably stay that way for some time.......

Don't know about other states, but in Qld there has been a policy for several years now of not declaring total fire bans. It seems that when total fire bans are declared the idiots come out and play with matches. In periods of high fire danger you won't get a permit to light a fire, but generally no total fire bans are announced.

I will newver understand why we don't recycle every drop of water that we use. It is a non-degradable resource that is endlessly recyclable. Every drop of water on this planet has already been through millions of animals and fish. Why can't we recycle it again rather than pumping it into the ocean. The government needs to educate the people on this and lead the way rather than seeking votes.
