    Default $12 frame clamp

This has probably been done 1000 times before but I couldn't find it so thought I'd post anyway.
I've got one of those 'strap' type frame clamps and don't like the fiddly bloody thing at all. Had 4 door frames to do for a buffet and wanted them right this time so I grabbed a 2700mm length of threaded rod (not sure what the builders call it) and 8 tube nuts and 4 normal nuts = $12.55 (you'll probably get it for half the price in the big smoke. Cut the rod into 4 lengths, drill 4 of the nuts out for clearance on the rod, weld pairs of the nuts together at right angles as in the 2nd pic and away you go.
Slipped a piece of ali' angle into each corner to spread the pressure (and glue) and the clamp pulled all 4 frames together SQUARE!!!! and FLAT!!! - couldn't believe it after the hassles I normally have! Very happy with it.

Note: The mitres are double-biscuited for anyone questioning their strength.

PS: Excuse the welds - self-taught birdsh!t spreader from wayback

TTrific idea - I too hate those strappy clamp things. I usually just get it set up right and the whole thing collapses on me!

I've gotta make me one of those bracket thingos. I also thought that making a second set of corners with a piece of sheet metal welded at an angle across the bottom of the corners would stop the frames falling through during the setup process as well as catching the excess glue and stop it from dripping onto the bench.

    Very impressed TTIT

Have been looking at this clamping system for a while but to lazy to do anything about it. The threaded rod is called BOOKER rod and I have a number of 1200 mill lenghts around. Seeing your design has motivated me to nip out to the hardware later tonight and buy the threaded tubes and make them tomorrow.

    Thanks for the motivation.
