Jig for drilling dowel holes
Has anyone come up with a Jig in which I can lock in an Electric drill and have a table to raise & lower to drill in the dowel holes into the end grain of the piece of timber to form a butt joint, I have a drill press but only a small one.

At times you would need a very tall drill press, I think you would need a horizontal drill to set up a gig. Or a jig with a steel sleeve to slip over the end and use a hand drill. But I may not know what I'm talking about as I 'm an Arborist-chemist not a cabinet maker.

I just bought a Triton Dowel driller.
Basiclly its the same as their biscuit cutter but has 2 drill bits mounted beside each other. You can vary the height, depth and angle of your work.
Havent tried it out yet but its sturdy. Also has 2 different size bits.I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

I have got the Triton Dowel Joiner and it works like a charm. I paid $89 for mine at Dahlson Ballarat.

Gary, Dahlsons Ballarat, unfortunately they don't have any more at the Ballarat store. You can visit their web page: http://www.dahlsens.com.au/
I have heard a whisper that there will be another Triton tool sale in the next 2-3 weeks.
If there is any, I will let you know.
If they have any, I would be happy to get one for you and send up to you.
Regards Glenn

Sorry but I cant see that as a great tool. The biscuit joiner was created to give you play when glueing stock together. I have one of those vice type dowel jigs and the hardest part of using it is accuracy in getting the alignment of holes. With this machine it doesnt clamp to the wood so it will be tough to align if say you want to dowel two 6 foot planks together. It will also rely on the user holding it true. So with a foot on one end of the stock, a hand on the other, and a hand on the machine it will be tricky
