Thread: Sturdee's marking gauges.

The reputation system is a Joke
WHat rules Sturdee???
I have only ever recieved 2 rasberries here and they were from thread hijackers "For not taking a Joke"
Bah!...............I don't mind all this mucking around BUT think there are a few Forum members that are just DAM RIGHT RUDE. In a perfect world where the sun's always shining and the birds are singing It would be nice if the Jokes were left until the thread was almost dead.
On a number of occasions I have been getting some great feedback & information from members only for the thread to degenerate into a joke fest..................Frustrating!!! In the spirit of the rules when I've given these members a rasberry I've been given a spray of abuse and a rasberry back.................Now I don't give a RAts about the reputation system and enjoy the joke fests!!!!
This isn't a winge either just the way I look at it. If people don't want to respect the forum rules fair enough ................ But hey don't get upset about rep points cause they mean nothing unless members are willing to abide by the forum rules:

I like these words from Ecclesiastes.
"It is better to heed a wise man’s rebuke than to listen to the song of fools. Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless. To whom these words apply, I'll leave to your judgement.
The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.
Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools."

Lou, motion seconded. Let's use this forum for informative exchange FIRST humour second. And yes folks, I realise I am a 'newbie', yes, I have indulged in tongue in cheek comments, but only as a quick quirk at the end of a post, not as a whole post for its own sake. Am I spoilsport? No, just saying let's get it in proportion. Until I retire, the kids leave home and the mortgage is just a word in a dictionary, life is too short to wade through a slew of witty(?) one liners to get to the nub of the matter. Soapbox anybody?

The reputation system is a simple judgement of your peers no more no less.
Professionally we have the same system for every course we conduct for work. IMHO works well here and the system at work is part of our QA systems.Bruce C.
catchy catchphrase needed here, apply in writing to the above .

What a fricking joke this thread has turned into- I only just heard about the whole storm in a teacup crap that has been flying around on this thread. Few points.
1. I don't go into all threads all the time. If you wish to talk with me directly, use a PM, or in Peter's case, pick up the bloody phone, or at worse email. Don't leave half a dozen messages on some obsure topic and expect I will have seen it. (I moderate on the TRITON threads - I only peruse other ones, I certainly don't bother visiting all of them, and when I do, I only read those that appear of interest.)
2. If you have been so vigilant to check on where I have been Peter, you would have had plenty of chances to PM me. Oh, and FYI, I leave my computer on for days, and if it happens to be logged into the Woodworking Forum, then I guess it will look as if I am online. Granted I have been cruising some of the threads recently, but whether I have or not is not your business.
3. I generally do not appreciate negative, directed criticisms at individuals on open boards. I will not moderate on this thread, as it is not my area. If it was in the Triton section, you can bet I will have. For this post, I have made an exception, as there has been a lot of mis-information and/or mis-informed options that needed addressing.
4. Anyone leaving positive, or negative feedback is their personal opinion, and I consider it particularly rude for what is a personal feedback on a specific topic being broadcast on the boards. If someone leaves feedback, it is up to them whether they include a justification or not. If they don't, then you take it as you may.
5. The original feedback was meant to be a positive one for Peter's 2000th post- don't know what went wrong, but it did, and the result is this ***** fight. Seeing as Peter has "A reputation beyond repute", then I guess that means that your reputation is "beyond repute", and a few negatives, deliberate or not, should not be of any concern.
6. Get over it already."Clear, Ease Springs"

Good call.
I've just left a couple of other positive feedbacks (Scooter, and DPB for a quite impressive quote). Just in case these get misconstrued in any way.
Guess I'll be receiving more flames for daring to provide positive rep points, as moderators don't have opinions.

Not a fricking joke.
Thank you for your reply, Stuart.
A few more points.
1. My reputation points total is not, and never has been, an issue in this and the increase or decrease, deliberate or not, is totally irrelevant.
2. That you leave your computer on for days, and logged into the Woodworking Forum, and as such look as being on line is also irrelevant for the Board automatically logs you as of line if inactive for 15 minutes.
3. It was not on some obscure topic but on the very same topic that you saw fit to cast a negative rep point on. As such I consider it to be the most appropriate place.
4. I do not consider it particularly rude for what you say is a personal negative feedback being broadcast on the board. Quite the contrary. I think it is the only appropriate way to deal with it for secrecy in these matters is an anathema to me.
5. At the introduction of the system I was a strong advocate that the issuer of neg rep points should be made accountable in open forum for their opinion. To that end the system was indeed changed to automatically disclose the giver thus removing the secrecy that previously existed.
6. I believe that the recipient can select the way he wishes to deal with any criticism, whether by private means or in open forum. I always have, and always will, as advised when the system was introduced select open forum so that the giver can also be judged for their actions.
7. You say that it is up to the giver whether they include a justification or not, if they don’t then you take it as you may.
Well Stuart, that is exactly what I did. I publicly asked for clarification as to the reason why.
I have at times received neg rep points and because of the comments, or justification, I have humbly accepted them. But yours did not include any comment so I was unable to understand why as IMO the post did not warrant it and as a Moderator I presumed that you would only give them in accordance with the rules.
Okay, you say that something went wrong, that it wasn’t meant to be.
Hard to believe that there are still problems with the program after all this time for it takes a deliberate effort (to avoid accidental mishaps) to cast a negative vote. But, ofcourse, I will accept your assurances that it was somehow in error and consider the subject now closed.
Peter.
