    Default Thickness Sander

I made this small thickness sander, so as to be able to get the EXACT sized timber that I need, for making 1/12th scale Horse Drawn Vehicle models.

You can get the timber strips to with-in 1 thous, of whatever thickness your after. If you really push your luck, you can get it so thin, you can hold it up to the light and see through it, about 10 thous before the sander just turns it into garbage.

I have been using this tool now for about 5yrs and it's got to be the best thing that I've made, for my hobby.

I found the drawings on the web, somewhere, can't remember now, KRAFT is setting in, the motor is just an el-cheapo 6 inch bench grinder from Bunnings.
The adjustable table has got a bit of slide glass added to the top and the timber has NO resistance at all, as you shove it through.
There are two different heads, one with course emery paper and the other loaded with finer emery, it takes about 5 mins to change heads if needed.
Got the vacumm cleaner hooked up to the pipe out the top and very little sawdust escapes at all.

    Hi Radish,
Very neat and sturdy looking. I can see why it gets good results. I have been getting by with a drum in a drillpress and run the wood along an adjustable fence. this gets me by for laminations but not as accurate as you'rs. I have been mulling over a drum that mounts in the lathe with a hinged table under it for the next version.

    Regards
    John

Phil, I had an old steel shaft laying around at work, so chopped a bit off that, think it was about 10/20 or 10/45 grade steel, it was FREE, so I just used it.
Could/would have used ally, if a bit was laying around of the right size, but alas, none around when you really want it, eh.

You're an abrasive character, aren't you! That's a great little item! You're not a maintenance fitter by any chance, are you? They always seem to come up with the coolest gadgets as foreign orders!

Nope, just a worn out old fart, who used to be a steering wheel attendant for way too long.

Now I spend my day time as a machinist, or, after hours, as a wood butcher.

    Good one Radish.......
I think I may steal some of your design to make my own.
    Clever.
