Thread: Threaded inserts ?

Where can I buy some discount threaded inserts ?..ta
Like to know where I can buy a box of cheapy threaded inserts...
Say about 50 units......zinc types....to take 1/4" or 6mm bolts....
I find them very handy in jig making...and I go through enough of them. So, I'd imagine it be a lot cheaper buying a box of them somewhere else than my usual 1/2 dozern buys from bunnings etc.
Anybody know of a wholesaler I could call ? Or a mate of a mate of a mates brother in law.
Thanks
<- isn't he a cheeky bugger. (how childish !)

Bill Norquay runs Sachys-Robertson. I don't know whether he stocks threaded inserts but he could probably put you on to someone who does.

The internals of the things are these: A 6mm allen key tightens them in. They come in different lengths, but the ones that I use are 13mm long. Note that I'm talking metrics, because metric they are.
The internal thread is M6. Again, metric. I have had to buy a metric M6 tap and die (available in lots of places, but here in Perth, Venables is the go.) Venables also sells threaded M6 rod, and you can easily make what you need with that.
The hole that is drilled into the work, and into which these little beauties are inserted is a 9mm one, and that's pretty much all I can tell you, except that they cost the princely sum of about 25 or 30 cents each. Oh yes, one more thing...the flanged ones don't sit perfectly flush in the 9mm hole. I just gently turn a countersink in the hole to flare the edge a wee smidgeon. Then it sits perfectly flush to the surface.

Cornall (Merchandise) Pty. Ltd. sell them and almost every other type of cabinet fitting you could want. They have branches in Brisbane and Sydney.
Have a nice day - Cheers

Hafele have them in a variety of sizes and Plyboard Distributors sell them, in Melb anyway but I imagine Sydney would have them too.
I got some for making bowsaws that are 12mm internal diameter.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

Our friends at www.woodworksupplies.com.au/ also sell a good variety starting from $3.50 for a pack of 10
The advantage here is that they are 1/4 inch or 5/16 - to go with all their other hardware.
