Jet 18X bandsaw finds a home
Well I'm very happy. I have just unpacked my new Jet 18X bandsaw.
After a bit of a search I found that Gary Pye Woodturning was willing to part with one of the 18X saws for $1650. He delived it to Brisbane for an extra $50.
For those that live in South East Queensland I highly recommend Gary. His prices are very good and he is a nice bloke to boot.

Mmmm, it's on my list of things to come. With those prices on white goods I'm not sure how others justify their prices. No doubt you're happy with it.

Actually I have not been able to get the thing to run for a more than a couple of minutes at a time. The motor is drawing excessive current and trips circuit breakers. It is drwing about twice the current it should (rough guess). This causes the motor to get HOT, very hot. Once its hot it will not run again, until it has cooled right down (may have tripped thermal shut off). While I am disapointed these things do happen. The real test is how the warranty claim is handled.
Gary Pye has offered to come and replace the motor. Considering that he is 1.5 hours drive away I am more than happy with this. Once again I cannot speak highly enough of GPW.Specializing in O positive timber stains

My 14" JET did the same thing. A new motor fixed it, but the local Jet guy is a dick. Took about 6 weeks. Then he sent it up without the pulley or flex.

I think this is the real test/measure for a companies service ability. If they are responsive to a warranty issue then they have my business. I have one of these saws too and cannot be happier with it. Well bought.
Buz.
