A Cyclone for Festool
This looks really good. Unfortunately no Australian distributor. Maybe Ideal Tools would be ideally placed to be the Australian distributor?

I believe a few forumites have bought the standard Dust Deputy product direct from the US. Seem to remember a few comments about excessive shipping charges, but apparently the things do work very well...
The Festool version looks neat, but I can't imagine Festool supporting this product in any way. Any kind of cyclone could seriously eat into vac replacement bag sales....
I already do something similar with a Triton dust bucket to get better use out of the exxy Festool bags !

Jill - I'm just using the Triton dustbucket inline with the Festool vac. It isn't hard to adapt the end of the Festool hose to go on one of the Triton fittings.
I have bought the monster plastic funnel required to convert the Triton dustbucket to a cyclone (there is a thread on the forums somewhere with plans for this), but haven't got around to doing it yet.
Main benefit of the dustbucket is when using the domino or router table, both of which produce a LOT of large chips. I found I was filling up those $$$ching$$$ Festool bags rather quickly !!
The Dust Deputy solution would be much easier, but who knows what the price would be if/when it gets here? I like the way the final hose to the tool comes off the top of the Dust Deputy thing at about bench height, making the hose much easier to manage without a boom arm.

SpiritLevel - indeed it does. Can't see any reference to Dust Deputy on the Carbatec (Sydney) website though.
Might have to ask them about this next time I'm up there.

hi Mr Brush, thanks for this. Yes, I did much the same thing , intending to convert the bucket. I searched all the auto stores for a monster funnel, but no luck. Where did you end up getting your funnel, please?

Jill - I just went and measured the funnel I have. It is 220mm diameter, black plastic, and I got it from AutoPro (car accessories place). I think they had even larger diameter ones too, but not sure what is the biggest that will fit inside the Triton dustbucket.
SpiritLevel - that sounds promising; I'll see if I can get confirmation next time I'm at Carbatec. This is one product that would really benefit from the bulk shipping associated with a local distributor; the shipping based on a volumetric calculation ends up being a bit steep for individual buyers.

Anthony has hit the nail on the head. If you are going to spend a few hundred on a dust deputy or similar, why not just get the long life bag? It saves a lot of space and you can leave your systainers connected if you want.
I am still trying to come to grips with just how much one of the standard bags can hold. In the time I would have emptied my old shop vac a few times the Festovac is still going. I am starting to think there is an elf service that empties them during the night.

Im with Anthony, Greg and the Elf on this one (must be the same Elf who empties mine when im not looking) The long life bag is amazing and so quick and dustless to empty.
The cyclone is a great idea but not this time. Plus its an ugly looking thing hanging off the cool looking Festool Vac. And as Groggy pointed out with the long life bag you can still put a systainer on top. I have a 9mm bit of MDF screwed to the top of my systainer that i keep my dominos in, and it acts as a great top for sitting the particular tool im using on.
[It looks ordinary now, but I have some black/blue paint on the way to spray the systainer to match and i will put a bigger and nicer top on to tidy it all up. ]
Its a great vac by the way
