I'm certainly ignorant of any details; however, I've heard it said that there are difficulties with servicing imported items, and you might assume that Tooltechnic (the sole Australian importer and the provider of tool service) might not care to provide free service for tools they have not imported..
If you import from Italy, do you have an Italian address to register the tools to upon purchase? And do you trust the various couriers between Italy and Australia? What if it's DOA?

There is certainly an element of risk with buying from overseas. It's just a question of whether or not the saved money is worth it. For me personally, not quite right now, but if the exchange rate improves against the euro, it may well do.
Plus, I would feel a bit better by not supporting the festool price fixing arrangement!

I just picked up a pre-loved domino a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes in this life you have a win or two.

As it turns out I ended up with some amazon.co.uk vouchers that I didn't have another use for, so that took enough off the cost ordering from them that I ended up going that way. Hopefully it doesn't break!

It is a pitty that more large companies follow the example of Apple who offer a world wide warranty. I discovered it when a friend of mine was going to work in Russia and needed to ensure that his purchase would be covered wherever he was. You can buy an Apple device anywhere in the world and it is still covered. Although to be covered by Australian law it has to be purchased in Australia and taken for repair in Australia.
The net is slowly transforming business models but some people are playing the King Canute, defying the tide of the inevitable.

I would consider importing a Domino pretty high risk, for a few hundred dollars savings it might be good, or it may be the 1 in a 1000 that plays up after the Paypal refund period is over, and your then left with a repair cost that may come pretty damn close to half the cost again. Really just depends how much you like playing the lottery.
Just Tools are an awesome crowd, and I find they are usually happy to haggle, or if they can't come down on price, they'll throw stuff in.
cheers, Ian

Yeah, agreed there is certainly a risk! I am hoping I am lucky with this one - and I'm only a hobbyist, so downtime doesn't matter to me as much as someone earning money with a tool that might need to be sent away for repair.

Well regardless of cost, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone regretting owning a Festool of any variety!
After about 15-20 years of use I had to get my 1/2 sheet Festo sander repaired as the control module died, my wife was horrified at the $250 cost, I thought it was well worth it. That was 10 years ago! Other than killing the motor because of fine aluminium dust on my old 38L dust extractor, that's the only money I've ever outlaid of Festo/Festool repairs.
cheers, Ian

Funnily enough I have never considered a Domino, but I can see its benefits. I know that Amazon won't ship the tool to AU but they are showing that they will ship accessories, for example dominos and cutters.
Is this Amazon giving us false hope, or will Amazon still ship Festool accessories?
