Default Festool accs on PROTOOL drill??

I was just looking at the Festool and PROTOOL battery drills....probably leaning more towards the PROTOOL 15.4V at the moment.

One thing I wanted was the facility to drill/screw close to edges, which is possible with Festool using this eccentric attachment

    FESTOOL FastFix eccentric attachment (DD-ES)

There doesn't seem to be a corresponding item for the PROTOOL drills?? If this is indeed the case, will the Festool part fit the PROTOOL 15.4V drill??

    Cheers

Hi Mr B ,I know all those fit my 18.4V Protool if the chuck is removable on the 15.4 then it may well do as well.
However i'm sure Anthony witll correct me if i'm wrong.

Check the brochure out on Anthony's site Protool brochure for QuaDrive Cordless Drills

    Cheers

Thanks John - I'm hoping that's the case.

The bigger PROTOOL drill would be nice, but having used a Festool C12 some years ago I think I can make do with the 15.4V. These things really do punch well above their weight !

How have you found the 18.4V PROTOOL? Not too heavy??

    Cheers

Mr B, according to the brochure it looks as though the 15.4 will take those different chucks offered they are the pretty much the same as the Festool ones, and probably come out of the same factory.

The 18.4 is comfortable to hold (not heavy in my view)but over a protracted period I cannot answer for as yet as I have only used it briefly on a few instances putting some anchor bolts in.

I have'nt looked back with purchase of this drill and certainly will go to Protool again down the track.

    Cheers

    Hi gents.

Unfortunately the Protool drills will not fit the Festool right-angel, depth setting, or eccentric chucks.

The Protool drills have their own set of accessory chucks, which includes a right-angle chuck, but this is an even heavier duty attachment than the Festool.

Because the Protool drills are meant for construction purposes, they are build for heavier work, this is why the Festool and Protool accessories are largely incompatible. Excluding Centrotec accessories which are compatible.

One thing to note, the Protool cordless drill accessories do interchange with Protool corded Quadrive drills. Which is cool.

Which is a bit of a bugger, because the eccentric chuck for the Festool is great. But as it is primarily meant for internal fit-out jobs, this does not tie directly into the Protool scope of construction tasks.

The Protool DRC 15.6 is very similar to the Festool T-15, so go for a T-15. But the PDC 15.6 (Hammer Drill) is great if you need a cordless hammer drill and general purpose drill driver. And then there is the IDC 15.6, and impact driver that can also do regular drilling with Centrotec drill bits.

Hope some of this information makes sense and helps.

Thanks Anthony - I saw the Protool range of chucks, but was surprised that the one I wanted wasn't there. Now I know why.......

I should have picked up a Festool T-15 at the Sydney WWW show, but was still dithering about whether the Protool might be a better option. Also.....I would have blown all my show pocket money in one hit......

I get your point about the intended applications; but it was precisely the "ruggedised" features of the Protool that put it ahead of the Festool for me. Seems we can't have our cake and eat it.....

    Cheers

Thanks Anthony for elaborating on this thread ,admittedly I have only tried a Festool chuck (of the Centrotec set)on the Protool which I did not make clear to Mr B.

It would be nice to have one system only, but alas. Fit for purpose seems to be the name of the game.
