They won't be selling them until later in the year, it's just a teaser. I've been told there is only one or two in the country.

Took a look at one on the stand at the wood show today, Anthony.
Looks like a good saw, priced competitively (well, relatively.) If I was a chippie trying to decide between the Festool and a Makita Slider, I'd be seriously considering the Festool
Price I was quoted was $1600 [edit: have had an email stating that this may have been a GST-exclusive price, although it sounded as though it was an inclusive price when I was discussing the thing. Not being a serious purchaser I wasn't interested in the financial details, just a cursory question.]
It's a 10.5" blade that cuts a 4x4 with room to spare, looked like a quality unit - saw head runs on rails above the saw like a radial arm saw - does that mean to use it safely you use it like a sliding compound or a radial arm saw.
Best regards,
eddie

Groggy - Do you mean argh or aaahhhhhh . I am certainly drooling over it - not long to go now.
Hi Eddie - That price quoted at the show was probably the ex GST price. But I am doing a double check with Festool to make sure I have not been misinformed - and will let the group know ASAP.
As for using the KAPEX like a regular SCMS or like a radial arm saw, the KAPEX blade rotates in the same direction as other SCMS. I think radial arm saws rotate the other direction. So you would use the KAPEX like a regular SCMS.
For late night reading, I have uploaded the KAPEX user manual and Extension user manual to our server. You can download them with these links:

1600 is what they're quoting and it is illegal to quote no gst prices, without clearly stating so. The standard blade supplied with the Kapex is incredible, through melamine with an absolutely factory perfect cut!

Loving Kapex
Hi All,
I had a VERY close look at the Kapex at the Sydney wood show yesterday, and went throught the demo with Tom from Tooltechnic a couple of times and I'm all The Kapex gets the from me.
The price that was clearly quoted to me was $1600 PLUS GST, so the $1758 mentioned by Anthony would be correct.
I've been planning on updating my mitre saw from an old DeWalt for some time now, and when I first heard of Kapex decided that it would be worth a look. I use my mitre saw for everything from hardwood stair treads to detail joinery. I have used the best that Makita, Dewalt, Elu, Hitachi and Electra Bekum have to offer. While I only had the opportunity to make a few cuts with Kapex and play with all the features on the display saw, I would say the following:
- The Kapex is quiet, very quiet. The only other saw that would come close is the Electra Bekum
- Kapex is silky smooth
- It is a user friendly tool Festool have addressed many things that have ticked me off when using other SCMS
- Did I mention that it is quiet????
As for the price, yes it is dearer than much of the competition, but that is standard for Festool product. For me, it was a matter of deciding if the features justified the additional price - for me they do. I overheard one punter say (after seeing the full demo) that Kapex is worth no more than a Makita. Mate, you are WRONG. That is like saying that Makita is no better than GMC. (clearly it is) Each brand has a place in the market.
On another note all together, the High School Students that had their HSC works on display should be very, very proud of their achievements. Well done to all of you. I drove 3 hours in appauling conditions to see the show. If I had seen nothing but the work from those kids (an Kapex of course) I would have gone home happy.
