Babbit metal
MM, thanks for posting, I've never seen that done before, very interesting.
I saw that big pair of scissors on his bench, I'd be tempted to cut off his silly, safety hazard, beard.......

was quite a common job years ago for my old man as a marine engineer ( which keith fenner is by the way ) in the merchant navy .
it was very often done at sea to keep something running and very often on shafts a heck of a lot bigger than the one in that clip . i still have a few of dads bearing scrapers that went to sea with him all those years ago .
