    Default Boss no Longer

Years ago about 15 we bought a steering boss for a VW we had it gave us nothing but trouble damn horn would go lights would short and it was not lined up.

Had it trued up on a metal lathe and put a 1x10 thread into it to fit the Jet mini spindle. Set up and using wood HSS tools turned it into a cup chuck come face plate. I will be drilling holes to mount a wood face plate if needed or even a Longworth chuck. I parted of on the Jet mini a portion to make a Face ring an added bonus approx 80mm osd.

Nicely done, I like cup chucks for turning (wood that is), very quick to set up and hardly have to stop the lathe to change parts...

I remember reading the books by Bill Jones? (might have the name wrong) where he did all his turning with cup chucks.

Good use for a VW, now what to do with the rest of it!

    Regards
    Ray

Sold the rest of it Ray the family wasn't impressed with me doing so as it had been FiL's he'd had it for some years. It got to the point of only the body would have been original. I taught our three kids to drive in it only one son didn't take it on he preferred my Landcruiser.

If It was still here and a metal lathe also I'd be making much more tooling etc.
