Buying hand tools from the US
With the great US dollar at the moment I'm looking at buying some hand tools from Yankeeland. So far I'm thinking about taps/dies, thread repair and rivnut guns.
Do you guys use any US websites for tools?
Thanks,
Ben

There are a number of different suppliers of taps and dies available in the US but you'll find they are mostly limited to metric and UN threads....like others on the forum, I'd recommend Victor Machinery - Metalworking tools and supplies - ..seem to have a wider range and they can usually source other stuff ........on the other hand if you are after BSW, BSP, Whitworth form etc or ME, then your probably best to buy from the UK as they are more commonly available there - I'm happy with RDGTOOLS.CO.UK

G'Day Ben,
I purchased tools from both ToolKing & Rockler and had good service from each.

There is the sticky thread at the top of the forum with names we have dealt with. I have only had good experience with the suppliers I have dealt with from over there. I think they are glad to get the business.

Ben
Get a price in from the US suppliers in dollars and then compare the UK sites for the equivalent,as postage from the UK is much more economical and quicker than from the US.

Many retailers offer to use the USPS international pre-paid boxes. A search should reveal all, but basically they're a smallish box capable of holding up to 20 lbs. The price is fixed at US$45 IIRC. Given how heavy most of our gear is, it represents a relatively inexpensive way to post tooling out. I've also found Enco's freight rates (sent by USPS) are also quite reasonable.

I bought lathe tools from tools4cheap, and a keyless chuck from Enco, and can recommend them.
