collet chuck or paper weight.
Gday every one I headed out today with a thinking about finding a protractor and some unc cap screws.
then something caught my eye sitting amongst some cans of discount paint.
I asked him how much and for less than the price of a 6 pack it was mine.
it seems in pretty good order and cleaned up well

Hi Aaron,
The only thing I can think of is a collet chuck out of some kind of indexing system...
Regards
Ray
PS... Cool book too!
PPS.. A search for 5C EDM Indexer turns up similar looking chucks, that might be a clue as to where to start looking..

paper wait
hi guys
that would make it a great investment fraggle until i
have to clean up the emty cans the next day but i like the way you think.
just a little lite reading phil. I thought it would be a suitable back ground as well as its plastic cover.
I could hardly use a book on knitting..
ray once again thanks for the tip. i see what you mean.

Can't help myself, I did note the book your collet chuck was sitting on too
Here's a pic of a K.O. Lee 5C collet chuck/Tool Holder I've been modifying to work with an old
Pratt and Whitney R6 Tool and cutter grinder I've been restoring
Just thought I'd include a few Steam books in the picture.
Some of the titles aren't legible but the bottom book is The Efficient Use of Steam by Oliver Lyle.
2nd from bottom is Admiralty Manual of Seamanship, lots of steam stuff in here and the very top
book is A. E Kings Guide for the Boiler Attendants and Engine Drivers Certificates.
My bookshelves don't have any Knitting books on them either ;-)

Living in sunny Darwin, often this space on the table is taken up by a Stubby Cooler, which
in the late afternoon is an absolute necessity to aid in Old Machinery Restorations

Nice books Fraggle.....But what did you do to that poor post drill in the background?
Sorry Azz, can't help either...but i have the feeling i have seen a chuck like that before, in the flesh. I'll ponder on it for a while and see if anything comes to me.
Cheers,

Poor old Post Drill
Hiya Ewan, that poor old post drill, and its matching forge, both made by Buffalo Forge Co are my only concession
to arty bits on the back verandah.
The original condition of both of them was pretty sad, and after a rebuild they both copped the gaudy colours.
Rest assured though, all the serious stuff is in a much more presentable visual state
