Z gear
Hi Guys.
Have a AL 335 and want to cut imperial thread and the chart says Z gear but I cant find it.
Can you help?
How many teeth on this gear?

Hi Kim,
The Z gear changes depending on what pitch you want to cut.
You should have got about 6 with the lathe. 22, 24, 26, 38, 48, 52
As an example, this is the thread chart off my lathe. To cut a 8 tpi thread, find 8 in the chart. So I need to be in select gear M1 A2 unsing a Z gear with 24 teeth. Set up as the diagram to the left of the chart.

48 is right
Z is just the position for the gear on the chart.
