Knurling rollers?
Dear Members,
Having just read on a recent post, that cigarette lighter flint wheels can be used as knurling rollers, leads me to my next question.
I wish to make a small knurling tool, and ask, where do you buy knurling rollers. I even thought of cutting the heads of 12mm cap screws, and using them.
There is a bloke on eBay selling rollers, but I cannot get any sense out of him on details.
There must be somewhere in Melbourne, where I can pick up various types, straight, diamond, etc.
Leave it with you, the holder I can dream up.
Regards,
Ken

I got an order from Enco in the US a while ago, and clicked their home brand rollers 3 times to get three sets of two, fine diamond.
Something like $3 a pair or something stupid cheap. Should have got all of them at the prices they had.
Made in India, but they are HSS and look very well finished, and work very well too.
I doubt a lighter flint doohickey is going to be anywhere near hard enough, especially if you plan to knurl anything harder than play-doh.

Knurling Rollers
neksmer,
Obviously you have have joined the growing list of people who haven't got a reply out of Ozmestore.
Personally after having dealt with them,I have always got what I was after ,for a decent price and posted to me cheaply and quickly.I wouldn,t read anything in to it other than he has got the staff / time to answer Emails.
However I can tell you he is honest and you will get value out of the knurl wheels set he sells for around $5 plus postage.I bought a set and think they are ok .PM me for any details on them.
If you don't want to go the Ozmestore route and you want to get parallel diamond and/or fine diamond patterns from LPR toolmakers who will answer your Email.
A good fella to deal with. Google him up,Ok!
If you don't already have one heres a link to making a knurl tool.

Knurling rollers
Hi Grahame,
I was not referring to Ozmestore, it was another company, located in the UK.
I have had dealings with Ozmestore, and agree, they are good people to deal with.
Thanks for your advice.

Ken

Hi Grahame,
Thanks for that link, some excellent advice (with pictures) for those starting out in the trade.
I have bought items from LPR Toolmakers and had no problems (or worries) with them. I have placed the link to the knurling section on their website but if someone has trouble opening it then just remove the excess info after the .com in the address.

Btw, I have a knurling tool (professionally made) like the one made on the link you provided. Personally I would always purchase that type rather than the general ones as they don't put so much pressure/strain on the bearing and slide(s). It can also be dangerous if you are doing a long length on a small diameter, it will bow without steady support and could snap - I saw a brass bar that had snapped due to this. I was told the operator had never gone to the toilet so quickly in his life.
Regards
David

Knurling rollers
Hi Members,
Although not listed on their web site, McJings also sell spare knurling rollers at around $6 each. OD-20mm, thickness-8mm, bore-6.5mm. Another piece of information to store away for later.
Regards,
Ken
