All complete with junk and rust. I am working on dealing with both and one or two other jobs in my spare time.

Hi Dean,
Nice lathe, your shed looks almost as messy as mine

I angled the camera juuusssst soo. Missed 99% of the junk. I need a bigger shed!! I am in process of extending sideways. Shed is about 9m x 4.4m, extension is about 9m x 4m. Way too small. Sigh. Have roof on extension and part of outer wall. Rain runs off roof onto ground and into the extension! Sigh. When I finish outer wall I can fit gutter and run water away. Yay! Maybe this weekend, or maybe not! Meanwhile I am slopping around mud, puddles and balancing on the odd paver. Need mass shelves for junk.
It has taken over 25 years for me to be in a position to own and then find an affordable lathe so I will be hanging on to it for a while yet. Cost me $200 plus motor (was 3 phase) plus switch (same problem) plus........ well we wont go there right now.

Hey, that looks like mine, only a different colour.
Dean, it looks like yours has the coolant stuff attached (at least the stuff on the carriage). Do you have any pics (or could you please take some) on how the coolant hose is attached to the carriage and how the coolant pump is set up?
What year is yours (it's normally stamped on the bed down the tail stock end)? Mine is a 1948 ... heres a pic.Cheers.
Vernon.

That is my problem exactly. As I have been discussing with Ray (Wheelinround) I have just got hold of a Nova 3000 wood lathe which has some rust and needs a little TLC, along with many other items in the shed. I don't see enough benefit in spending the extra money on a VSD. I would rather put it towards a mill. I got the lathe from work. They got a newer one and were just scrapping this one so I paid $200 to social club.

I know very little about this lathe.

See my previous post.

I like your colour better. Wanna swap? Mine has some special features, like a gap in the bed, and nothing to fill it! The original crossslide wheel was pinched because the maintenance team at work dropped their newer lathe on it face and smashed the crossslide wheel along with other stuff. I should point out that I dropped mine on its rear too but the damage was minor. The crossslide driven gear is missing, presumed busted.
Everything else works on it tho. Coolant pipe mount on rear of carriage.

The original coolant pump was also pinched by the maint. team as theirs had a stuffed motor. I grabbed it and fitted a washing machine pump motor to it but it is only temporary. Found the date thanks to your info. Was made on 10/12/52.
Did you have any success with B & D Machining? I sent them an email and received no reply. I have just been reading thru the posts in that old link of yours. Maybe mine was a TAFE machine. It has about 30inches between centres. I wonder where it fits. What is yours? I have both steadies, 2, 3 jaw chucks, a 4 jaw, a face plate, a drive plate and a 127 tooth back gear. I am guessing I was lucky there.

Nother question. You still had original switches when photo was taken. Is yours still set for 3 phase. I had to replace the motor and switch unit to run on single phase power. Each of them cost as much as the lathe. I have a spare 3 phase motor out the back if you need one. HA HA.

Thanks for the photo, it clears up how it's mounted - I have the mounting bolts, but no other mounting hardware. Sorry to be a pain, but do you also have a pic of the pump assembly.
I ended up calling B&D as I never got anywhere with email. I got a price on a 127 tooth gear and a manual, but ended up baulking at the price (around a 1/3 the cost of the lathe).
I not sure what mine is between centers, but I have a feeling that it's more than 30 inches, but I'll confirm that. I didn't get too many accessories with mine other than a fixed steady ... I just recently made a travelling steady as well as adding some way wipes to the carriage.Cheers.
Vernon.

No pain at all. I am happy to talk to someone with the same lathe. What do you want to know about the pump assembly? As mentioned in previous post my pump is cobbled together from other bits. I don't have any of the original pump parts. If you want a cheap setup buy a fountain pump off ebay. Thats what I am going to use for my bandsaw when I finish upgrading it. Just make sure that the coolant is well filtered.
Think it is cheaper to convert to single phase. I doubt I could run much over 3hp on my power supply anyway and to get more than 15 amps I would have to run another line from house.
Was a manual available and at what price? It would have to be cheap for me to bother. I managed to work it all out. I am pretty sure that the crossslide gear I need would be too expensive for me to consider buying. I know how to make one, just need to make a rotary table.

Sorry, I thought you had a mostly original pump setup. I'm interested to see how the pump was originally setup, just out of curiosity - I was given a pump with my lathe (not attached) and was wondering if it was in fact part of the original setup or something cobbled together by a previous owner.
The manual was $60 from memory.
What exactly is the crossslide gear? I have a couple of spare parts (not many), but you never know your luck.Cheers.
Vernon.
