I'm a metal worker by trade. Drop bears are a joke. As I said a bit of insecticide and you'll be fine.

I'm a metalworker by trade as well. I can do a bit of basic carpentry as you get in home renovations but real woodworking I steer clear of. I have real problem with wood dust and sinus.

Back to the orginal question...... $1000.00 is an absolute ripoff. I used to know someone who made a nice can using K baffles and stainless for the blast chamber. All up took 7 hours machining, but most of that time was stuffing around. If in production, it wouldn't take tthat long at all. The quoted time above didn't include work to the barrel, or anodising of the finished can, but did include knurling of the can, 4 "K" baffles made from alluminium, and one blast baffle made from stailess, as well as screw in end cap. The blast baffle was bored, but not threaded for the firearm.
If I were you, I would go to the "silencertalk" forums in the states and ask for someone to make one up for you. As long as you apply for the correct paperwork, I am sure you could get something for way less than half of your qouted price.
