I have some of that PVC sheet they use on vehicles for canopy curtins on my mill it's fixed the back of the table and on the front of the column .
It catches all the chips and crap from the milling process ,so far it has lasted and I haven't seen any chips that have burned into it .

    On the lathe,
If you want something to put over the ways to keep the filings off them when filing then ,news paper with some oil sprayed on works very well and is cheap.
Files I keep near my lathe are ,millsaw , smooth , and a second cut . And a couple of pillar warding files with safe edges for getting into corners.Generally I don't like using files on lathe work , it can wreck a file in no time, but sometimes convenience dictates .

    Thanks Mark.
    Hi Mark,
I found the one's that are available cheap from the UK. The top 2 are laminated fabric (I would warn against these as I have this type on my mill standard) and the bottom 2 are rubber which sounds a lot better.

I still think Clark rubber is the cheapest solution, but it isn't concertina.
