We had a few different ones for some standard dimensions that you use all the time, plus a few that were for specific jobs.

When I first started work, they had just won a contract to make cheese boxes for Bega Cheese. So we made them up with specific dimensions for each stage of production. A lot of the work was done with fly presses and we had jigs, so no marking out. But there were plenty of jobs that needed it, like safe edges and other folds etc.

I think we made something like 1500 of these bloody boxes. About 1 metre square and 600mm or so high, made in 6 pieces. The boxes are put together and loaded up with cheese which is then put in the cool room to mature for x amount of time. Then to remove the cheese, they take off the lid and remove the sides and the bottom of the box is a sideless tray with the blocks of cheese sitting on it for further processing. Clever design but tedious to make so many of them.

    Default Scratch gauge pics

I finally remembered to bring some home to photograph.

No 1 : is the current model and

No 2 : the one the kids had trouble with originally. They had problems picking the difference in dimensions that were close to each other.

    Default Adjustable gauge pic

Here is the pic of the adjustable gauge.

The slider block could be made in any shape,
    I suppose,it won't matter.
