    Wow that's neat
Apparently four generations of my family made watches during the winter months.

Very interesting, just need to sell my house to own one, if I start making one now I might be finished in 10yrs.

There's lots on the net about watchmaking but here's an interesting one on engine turning...

I've marveled for a few years now at the work that goes into a wind up watch.
They must with worth about a $1.50 in material.
Thanks for the links, I'm working through them slowly.

I'm with you Bob. A fella could get lost in that ornamental turning rabiit hole and never come out. But I like it.

Mike G'wood has been trying to get me to squander my super on a Holzapfel lathe. Since that ain't gonna happen I'd like to make one as a master project one day.

    Hi Bob,
Wow, thats 30 minutes of my life i'm happy to have spent.....once i stopped drooling of the machines i found the section on hardening, very interesting way to stop oxidization, i'll have to remember that one.

No worries, glad you found it interesting. Hope u don't mind if I put a couple more links here. Some of these watches fascinate me, complex little machines that run 24/7.

    This one's pretty full on.

Quote: Four tiny microstep motors drive the movement of four belts which are mounted on a central chassis. Fibre glass reinforced nylon is utilized for the belts to obtain a thickness of 2/1000th of an inch but maintain the high strength needed. The movement is powered by a Lithium rechargeable battery, which holds a charge for two weeks. The belts are monitored by a propriety optical recognition system in order to ensure accuracy.
