More VFD Questions
HI,
I've had my motor rewired, ready for a VFD. These are the ones I'm looking at so far:
Teco FM50 1 0HP Drive Phase Converter Single TO 3 Phase | eBay
SAJ 0 75KW 1HP VSD VFD Inverter 240V Variable Speed Drive | eBay
WEG VSD VFD Variable Speed Drive 75KW 240V CFW10 NEW | eBay
Any comments, opinions, advice, experiences etc etc would be appreciated. Its for my Hercus mill with a .37kw motor.
Cheers Ben.

Just get a huanyang or whatever they are called. I'm on my phone right now so I can't give you a link, but if no one else has by the time I get home I will. It will be about $150 delivered.
Cheers

Here's one, plenty others on Ebay.
Professional 1 5KW 7A 220 250V 2HP Variable Frequency Drive Inverter VFD CI | eBay
The advantage of the Huanyang VFDs is that there are plenty of people with knowledge of them.

Unless you specifically want Vector control,
go the Huanyang! They are cheap but for the price and what they do, I can't fault them, the sellers provide excellent service and they're delivery is pretty quick.
I have one on my mil (never looked back) and about to get two more, one for the lathe and (fingers crossed) bandsaw.
A quick shows these to be the cheapest.
Updated NEW 1 5KW 220 250V 7A 2HP Variable Frequency Drive Inverter VFD T7 | eBay
I think I bought mine from this person. Superfast shipping and I offered about $10 less than the "buy it now" price which he accepted.

Hi,
My motor is only .37kw or about 1/2hp. The smallest Hyuanga??? is 1.5kw. Will it be to big? And does it matter if its a US or UK device? Sorry about the dumb questions but I'm not that good with technology or electricity.
cheers Ben.

Hi,
I don't think it matters if it's too big. You actually tell it how many watts your motor is in the set up parameters. I think you can even run a 2HP motor on a 1.5HP VFD, it just limits the power to 1.5HP.
I have a 3HP VFD and have recently ran a 150W hydraulic pump motor on it (only to test the motor + pump). I didn't even change any of the settings so it still thought it was running a 2.2Kw motor. I also recently ran two motors on it at the same time, a 1 HP saw motor and the 100W coolant pump motor, once again no real issues. Mind you I didn't try turning one motor off and leaving the other on, that may be more of an issue.... Dunno. I don't want to let the magic smoke out of it!
Your head will be in a spin when you buy one of these things and look at all the set up parameters! They really are very versatile. WRT your motor, a 1.5HP VFD won't go astray as it will always give you more options if ever you need it to run another machine, even though these things are usually set up to a dedicated machine/motor.
Edit: Delivery. It says US & UK delivery but in the actual ebay description it says it's coming from Sydney. I would just buy the cheapest you can get from a seller with very high positive feedback, which most seem to have anyway...

Yeah, just eBay search vfd with price plus postage lowest first ands worldwide and buy the first one listed. When I was looking the 3hp was the cheapest from any seller.

I have an SAJ and 3 Huanyang's and apart from the Huanyang's being half the price of the SAJ and the SAJ coming with a built in pot I can't tell the difference between them.
BTW one of the Huanyang's came with the factory base frequency set at 400 Hz, When I put it on my drill press and turned it on the VSD tried to spin the motor up to the base frequency but the motor and VSD had the sense to trip out at about 200 Hz - no problems it's all working fine since. Later I found a piece of paper in the box telling me to check the base frequency
So my advice is go with the Huanyang but make sure you set the starting parameters before turning it on.

ive got 3 different types the huanyang is the best because it has so many more options ( main one for me was remote switching) . i put a plug base on the out put end and use it on several different motors,,,, shaper / lathe / grinder without changing any parameters works perfectly they have inbuilt protection so if any things astray they shut down
hardest part is setting the parameters to start with ( i set max output amps )it use to shut down if i input the motor amps

I've got a Hitachi X200 2HP on the cnc router.
$234 AU shipped from the US for 1HP model here
NEW Hitachi Inverter X200 007NFU2 Input 200 240V 1 OR 3 Phase 1 HP 4 Amps | eBay
Hitachi Australia don't carry the VFD range, probably tried overcharging and they didn't sell, so importing is the only way.
Definitely worth it if you have the extra coin to spend.

Mine did as well and I cant remember what it did but it was not going right. The motor also squealed this terrible noise.
I contacted our electric expert Ray (in my opinion) and he gave me the settings and told me to change some others to get rid of the noise. Evidently the noise is different for everyone as some can hear certain pitches where others can't, but he helped me fix it all with the push of a few buttons, Thanks Ray.

Hi Ben,
Just go with one of those units because a lot of people here know them inside out and can easily help you out.

I'm no electronics expert so cannot speak of the innards, but the overall build quality is much better. I've had both along with a Delta VFD at some point and my favorite is the Hitachi. There are a few other small differences but nothing significant.
Also if you want a Delta 1HP VFD you can pick one up for $293 shipped to AUS from damencnc.com (I haven't compared them again aus supply)
I've got nothing against the HY units my VFD is still running strong, they do the job at a cheap price, I'm just tossing some alternate brand names for the OP to think about.
