Glad to see common sense come to the fore.
I enjoy reading the whisperings, and can relate to some of the equipment being repaired having been involved with heavy engineering, steam powered turbines and machine shops for many years, but not in a hands on way.
I will certainly call in to your facility next time I'm down your way to say G'day.
Keep up the good work (and publicity).
Alan...

Thanks Alan,
Grand tour of course should you get a chance to pop in.
Hi Andre,
That would be 'my' pleasure. It would be a nice to have someone who wanted to learn.
Hi Wheelin'
at least you wouldn't be sitting there asking me what an inch was

I did a bit of work on the 'hasty' arrangement I did for the drain cocks a few years ago.
This arrangement is not original nor an accessory that came with the pump but we needed something to make it easier to turn all the drain cocks on and off with the one lever due to the position of the pump.(my story and I'm sticking with it)
This arrangement is basically bolted together with 3'8" brass screws and the nuts kept coming undone. Nylocs? I have to at least try to make it look period.
I made some pins, ten in all to replace the screws.
I don't have a pic of the arrangement in its position on the pump but I will get one later.
I took some video footage making the pins but the camera I used is useless at that and is kind of pixellated and very grainy. I can post it if you want but it really is bad.
I needed to drill 1/16" holes in each pin for the split pins so I have pics of making the drilling jig as well.

3'8" Brass screws.....wow, how did you drill the holes for them??
Good to hear you can keep this thread going Phil, always love to see what you have been up to.
I take it your washer catcher is just a bit of rod held in a chuck in the T/S? Great idea, beats fishing them out of the pile of swarf.
Cheers,

With the same helix angle as 1/2"x13 it comes out at a pitch of .15tpi, or 6.66".......yes i'm at work and bored.

Interesting as always, I like the drilling jig, I don't have any 3'8" drill bits either, I could perhaps do something with a plasma cutter and a bit of string..

Well well well,
you guys have just witnessed the senior moment from hell
3'8"...pffft. What was I thinking.
Actually I think I am in some kind of permanent senior moment.
What's worse is, I thought you lot were talking about 3/8" screws being wood screws and I should have written 3/8" metal threads.
Wow, not embarrassing at all.
Stuart, all the 10 year olds are going to go to uni. They reckon that's where the real money is.
