1st successful corncob pen
Well after many blow outs I finally finished a mont blanc style corncob pen.
The finish is shellawax over ca looks ok but feels too plasticy for me. Still I guess it appeals to some.

It looks like the effort was worth it, Pete.
I agree about the feel of CA finishes but sometimes they're the only way to go. I'd rather a pen that feels plasticky than one that feels crumbly.

yeah I know what you mean when I was 2/3's of the way I stopped and soaked it with thin ca overnight then turned it the rest of the way in the morning and tehn sanded and added more ca then this evening when it was cooler (38C) I did the eee and shellawax thing. I guess some projects just wont work without stabilizing with ca or epoxy.

If you've soaked it with CA then all you really need is the EEE and not the Shellawax. This will also help to cut the plastic feel to the finish.
Looks good though.

corncob
%$#$%#$ stuff anyway. I spent about three hours on this "for fun" Walmart pen , finally ended up with half a blank and an oops ring.
BTW, the color is because it is "Indian Corn", had red kernals. The other one is mesquite, I think.

You have to use raw ones, well dried, cooked ones get soft and moldy (DAMHIKT). This was in the house since the autmn of 2005, then put out for the squirrels to eat the kernals off.
