3 Fountains
Had to do some stock rebuilding of fountain pens , A designer Elite in Coco Bolo , A Flat top Americana in Jade Acrylic, And a Euro style in Red Palm . the woods in Glow and canauba wax , (look for the smiley face on the coco bolo )
My first try at Red palm, somehow I'm glad it wasn't cross cut cheers ~ JohnG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

G'day John,
Very nice pens indeed. I very much like the jade.
Due to issues with super glue I am interested in finishes. How does the glow and wax stand up over time and if I may ask, how do you apply your finish.
Regards
Terry

also to terry with regards to the types of finishes have you tried the WOP (wipe on poly) finish ? I have been using it for awhile there are a few tutourial around on how to do it but Sam (simomatra) got me going on it and it works a treat.
Hope I am of some help

schaf ! My pens get a hard life as they are mostly market pens ,on display in the hot and cold etc.they also get a lot of handling ,in the main the U-beaut glow is my choice of finishes for market pens ,it goes on easily and looks good ,and gradually settles down over time to a nice satiny sheen, but the wood always feels and looks like wood The finish is in essence a sort of "french polish" and I am sure a buff up with a standard furniture polish every so often will refresh the shine if required. As the glow is a polish it does not fill holes and cracks etc like CA will , I sand to about 800 grit most times then burnish with "0000" steel wool. this ensures that the surface is as smooth as can be ,so if the polish deteriorates a bit the wood is still smooth as underneath, I then apply the glow with a bit of blue shop towel ,very sparingly hehe a few drops only ,I apply first with the lathe stopped along the grain till it starts to feel a bit sticky ,then spin at about 2000 rpm ,at this point you need to get enough pressure and heat to actually set the process in motion. The shine comes up pretty quick most times ,you can add another light coat while spinning if needed , at this point I use a hut stick of canauba to lightly coat the glow, and buff it off on the lathe , that works ok for me ,and most of my pens are done that way ,some of the trickier materials get the CA treatment but that's a case by case thing. Others will of course do it differently but all these things are just a guide ,final choices are what works for you , Cheers ~ John

Nice pens, I sell more of the flat tops than just about any other kit, and that Cocobolo is fantastic, I'm going to have to try one of those Designer Elites that's a nice kit.

My wife grabbed the first one I did about 18 mths ago in a nice bit of zebrano. If you do get some kits make sure you get the stepped drills for them as both the tubes are necked down so you can get that slender shape ,does make life a little easier hehe! The pen part is stepped three times ,and the cap twice. I get them from here

Hey John! great work. love them all but better still is the quality of the pics, you have improved in this area beyond belief. What's the secret John, new Camera or new technique? or new photographer
Reality is no background music.

Hehe ! as the penmaking improves ,so does the photography !! I just use a hand held kodak ,daylight if possible ,then crop and reduce in ACDC nothing fancy or clever at all , I upload to Bit bucket then attach links to the photos ,not great for dialup members but does allow for more detail in the bigger pics . Cheers ~ John
