First Acrylic "Warning" contains pictures
I just finished my first Acrylic on my new JET. It turned out interestingly and nice, but they are a lot more work than wood, much extra time must be spend drilling and finishing. Fit and finish are much better, the new pen mill and lathe are working well, although I did notice the tailstock has to be tweeked over to one side when you lock it down or the centers do not quite line up. (oh no not again )
I've forgotten what the blank was called, but I bought it because it reminded me of Turquoise. I had a Platinum Cigar kit that I thought would combine with it to make a striking kit. On the monitor and in the photos it looks rather green, in real life it has a more Turquoise coloring to it, in case anyone is looking at it and going, that looks nothing like Turquoise.
I wet sanded it down to 1500, then polished it out with 3M t-cut.
Please excuse the dirty hands, I was out working on one of my cars earlier, and my hands are rather dry (winter over here) and dirt and grime is almost impossible to get out of dry skin.
Here it is with another pen I made recently, its Oak on a gold cigar kit. If you look closely you will note some pretty bad seams/gaps on the Oak pen, it was pre-new pen mill. What a waste of a beautiful piece of wood.
Wood. Such a wonderful substance.

Sweet looking pen Matt
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Both pens are excellent, but the acrylic is definitely an eye catcher.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.
Here are a couple pics I took today in natural light, you can see the turquoise coloring much better.
In the other photos it looks positively green, and it will kind of change hue depending on the lighting, but in natural light it definitely has a turquoise hue.
I'll have to give the sugar and lemon a try toni, sounds like an early version of orange hand cleaner. My main problem though, is that I don't use lotion enough. I think about it occationally, but rarely put it on. I should. I'm always washing my hands (cold/flu season) as well as working with solvents, carb cleaner and the like, so my hands get dried and cracked, then when I get near any kind of grease or anything it gets sucked down into my desperate for any moisture skin and its almost impossible to get it out, lol.
Anyhow, pen has a new owner (my mum ) I thought of her right away when I saw the pen blank in the store so I knew it had to be. She's a fan of turquoise and silver.Wood. Such a wonderful substance.

They are both beautifully made pens!! It is interesting how the turquoise behaves in different lights.
