Art Deco Rollerball
Finished this on the weekend
A kit I was forced to purchase from Mark at 043Turning
He got me in a headlock at the Sydney WWS and proceeded to engage in some high handed hardsell and ultimately successful selling tactics
It is an interesting kit ...
Clad in Gidgee and finished with Rustins plastic coating.
The kit is a Black Titanium and gold Art Deco rollerball in the Artisan Series from Penn State Industries. Apparently designed by David Broadwell
I looked at the 043Turning site and it doesn't seem to be listed as yet. So I can't post you a link

well crafted, and well done on getting a photo that shows the true colour of black titanium. it seems to be a hard thing to do.
i have some customers that would like that pen style.

Thats a nice looking pen you have made there. What I do like about the kit it is that it looks different than alot of the other pens around and it good to see some different types of kits around.
Well done to you for making it you have done a fine job and hats off to 043turning for getting the kit. On the subject of things mark doesnt have up on his site yet I believe he has alot of the European blanks (Zebra Leopard and Ivory) to name a few so there are heaps of new stuff around all the time.
Cheers Ian

Beautifully made and photographed!!!
I love Art Deco but have yet to see a pen in that style that I can truly admire.
I would like to see this kit with the gold and BT on the cap as an integral part of the main barrel and the whol pen the same diametre from top to bottom. That of course would mean it would be a non-postable cap.

It does look retro, doesn't it Nick. I'm a fan of it. Something different for sure. I'll keep an eye out for this one. Haven't turned a pen for ageeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees.
Great job on the finish too.
Nathan.

Looks nice to me , another to add to my inventory hehe, it's one of those kits that is a bit loud in itself ,similar to the sierra style by the same designer, with these I like to use a plainer wood so the pen does not get too busy overall ,you seem to have got that one pretty well nailed , cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Yes, that's one of David's pens. I've got to say .. I can see the work that went
into them, but they just don't do anything for me.
Your work looks great, though.

Thanks for all your comments everyone
I tried to pick a timber which had a bit of character and that would not be overwhelmed by the kit
I was also thinking of using a bit of brown mallee, but decided a dark timber would look better
I tend to agree
the actual pen/writing implement is rather bland
if was non postable with a bit of arty deco(ey) at the end it would, I think, look more speccy
Seems to be a standard pen with a speccy cap
On further thought I don't think such a pen needs to be postable
But it is interesting and is growing on me - I might even keep it
Can I borrow your 'chair for the next show. It's ok I'll leave you lying, comfortably of course, in a corner somewhereregards
