Very attractive in an understated way. Clean lines.

    Nice pen .
Just a question regarding the timber is that Australian bloodwood or another timber by that name .Just curious about the wood.
My son works for an arbourist and last week he arrived home with a 60kg chunk of Australian desert blood wood .
The timber is a very dark red almost like a good red wine.I cant wait for it to dry so I can cut it up.
I have an old back saw I plan to re-handle with some of it.

Very nice, Les, a beautiful finish and the pen looks good... but the lower barrel in that one looks to be very straight-sided?

It could just be the pic, but I've always felt that the pens with that style of upper body (or "cap" if you prefer) look better with a similar, although much slighter, taper on the lower barrel. So I tend to leave a mm or so excess wood over the centre bush during turning.

Not meant as a criticism - after all many kits are made that way (yuk!) but I just thought I'd mention it as a tweak you could try if you ever find yourself wanting to experiment... (And if you don't like, it's easy to remount and bring it back to straight-sides. )
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

    Thanks Kev.
As far as I know this is South African Bloodwood.
Mexico and Australia has Bloodwood as well.
I don't know how a person would tell the difference?
