    Default My first buckeye burl

A rather unusual color for a timber. I used a Statesman kit and was undecided about using the black titanium or the gold trim. I left it to my wife who picked the gold. Twenty coats of CA, micromeshed to 12,000, and polished with Griot's glass polish. Part of me likes it, part of me thinks it's an ugly color. Sure has lots of swirl though. Comments welcome.

I'm with you on that one. Finish and assembly looks top notch, but I wonder how it would have looked with a predominantly gold kit...?

First class work as usual Cisco, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you send it over I will give it a check out. There are some lovely colours in the buckeye burl.

The timber looks great. I like the color too. It almost looks like its made of stone.

I think that is a very good looking pen, like the BEB, have never seen or used it in the "flesh".

Nice BEB there Cisco, the finish and fit up are great. It looks good on the gold but then i tend to favour black titanium, but that's just me. You have done it justice.

I think a gold kit would highlight the similar colour in the blank. For me the silver contrasts too much. My 2 cents.

One attractive pen, that buckeye is very appealing, Amos, I wish i could finish my ends as well as that. Amos

Thank you for the comments, fellas. That is about as much gold as you are going to get on a Statesman kit. That's pretty much just how they come. Rhodium plating or nothing. And I find myself drawn to the Statesman. This is my third and I like the way the end narrows down in back. Makes it a little sleeker or something. It's a fairly large kit, yet doesn't feel as bulky as an Emperor. Looks like I won't have to worry about the color growing on me. I've decided to give it to a very nice older gentlemen I know who is going through some serious health problems right now. Clots in his lungs. I'm hoping it will cheer him a little.

And Amos, there isn't anything I can teach you about pen making. But, thank you just the same.

Cisco, the Gentleman from CSUSA also has that non-postable end and comes in 10K Titanium and Rhodium. Perhaps worth a look?
