Camphor Laurel for Pens OK?
Too right it is, this is a pic of a seat on a three legged stool made by a schoolboy here in Canberra, it is a sample of some of the grain variations possible in this timber. The stool won Champion in the recent Royal Canberra Show Craft Hall overall winner.
Regards Peter.

Hi Peter
That is a stunning piece of Camphor.
I think that if that piece was cut up into pen blanks, you would loose much of its glamor because the features on the piece would be too big to translate into pen blanks.
What that student did was outstanding and its great to hear that he was rewarded for his efforts.

That's a beautiful piece of timber right there. Shop must have smelled good while he was making it. I think camphor laurel would make for a fine pen provided you could incorporate some of the figuring into it.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Now you have done it my mate says I have not seen the better pieces so I will follow this up, I too have made classy pens from less figured Camphor.
Having fun. Peter.
