First Foray into Found Wood.... Not so lucky
Ok I'm not the best at recognizing wood in it's natural habitat but local school cut down a tree and let me take as much as I wanted. Soooo I loaded up the wife's van and brought it home.
Finally got to cutting some chunks apart (no chainsaw so old fashioned handsaw for me) and cut some 12 in chunks up to seal the ends, etc.
Decided to cut one lengthwise to open her up and see what was inside. (christmas feeling anyone??)
Open it up, somewhat tight grain, not too bad looking. So time to take some slices on the tablesaw.
Here comes the first hint of disappointment... smells a lot like pine...
Look at a couple slices, sure enough, looks a lot like pine too... /sigh
Now I'm debating whether it's worth it considering I don't have a chainsaw.
Got some pics to show you what I got.

Wolfcoast don't throw it away keep a good bit of it an selectively cut for grain pattern, it think they would go nicely of Black Ti kits or against some gun metal slim lines and then sell them back to the school teachers so they have a piece of the flora from the school.
