Hello to all woodies that post blanks etc
To come to the point I went to the post office again today and verified Yes there is such a thing a a padded specially marked prepaid envelope fairly new called Registered mail and clearly printed and distinctive. in 500 grams and 1 kg padded envelopes.
The cost to USA is19.35 Aus and in writing on the back of the envelope it says this envelope is insured for 100 Aus Dollars ie for the 500 gms.
The cost to the USA is 30.95 for the 1 kg bag and also automatically insured.
I hasten to say I only report from now on and before using my experiences with freight for my purposes, No guess for me only experience. The purpose of stressing the facts are also that the postal rates are under review and will change on the first of next month. (No crystal ball can be used) even the staff as well as the customers are informed on that day.
It is my need to use the system again and again before the end of the month in after having used it several times already, you can also pay for a returned to you signature from the receiver of your parcel.
I join with Timberbits and extensively use Australia Post.
Footnote 3 to ten days delivery however you can track the parcel by your number to be sure to be sure this works to your the senders advantage.
Regards Peter.

Hi Peter- I posted some pen blanks to Italy in one of those padded envelopes
700gm cost $27.50 and it took 6 weeks for the envelope to arrive. because of the Christmas backlog .I still think 6 weeks is way too long.I don't think it was the Australian post that was slow but the other side of the world.
Still in the future I'll be looking at different Ways of sanding Parcels.
Any suggestions?
Cheers Tony.

I posted a parcel a while back in early February to USA and it took 3 weeks to arrive. A return package took 13 days to arrive at my home address in Australia. I dont see how it can take so long when it is sent Air mail. Not as bad as mail from New Zealand though. My friend went there for a trip 2 years ago and sent postcards to all her friends and only about half of them arrived. I am still waiting for mine to arrive.
Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Hi
I have horror stories from Canada 2 1/2 months on blank purchase and delivery.
Tracking one using the prepaid Reg envelope proved on one occasion a week to get out of Australia to USA PO said Customs can hold up if they have a backlog.
Sorry never sent to Italy but had a stroke of good fortune a mate is safe handing 3 kgs of blanks total for two parcels today to Japan saving me about 70 dollars. He is travelling with only a rucksack is attending his graduation in Japan. He will post the two parcels in Japan for me, remains to be determined the cost of internal parcels in Japan.
There are firms who do international, check with the airlines for names and rates.
Have success Peter.

As with all post you here good and bad stories,
For the amount we send out local and international we have a 99% sucess rate.
The failures or late deliverys are usually when someone wants something in a hurry before the weekend, usually turns up monday or tuesday of the next week and no reason for the delay.
Most international ones arrive in 7-10 days from post.
On the whole I dont think Aus Post do a bad job but the other countries do have internal delays or dont let the customer know there is a parcel siting there for them to pick up.Jim Carroll

If by any chance it was to happen again would it be possible that you may send them to Italy direct? insted of coming to me and then "Well you know". Maybe you could PM. me. if the forum is not the place to talk business.
