Happy to spend a couple of hours on a pen if I have to, and I have BTW but not everytime. There are times when I just need a result and all I have is 30 mins or so, in that case the pen doesn't have to be perfect but it would be nice if it had a durable finish.

It takes me 30 minutes to cut, drill and glue the blanks and then another 20 minutes to turn and sand followed by another 20 minutes at least applying the CA, MM and polish, not to mention assembling it. That's over an hour depending on the pen and probably rushing it a bit. The more upmarket pens take me longer. Also, I allow the glue on the tube to dry overnight so I make them in batches so speed up the process a little. I could not do a pen every 30 minutes that was halfway decent. If it I am not satisfied with the finish of the timber it either goes in the bin or becomes a shed pen. There is not much enjoyment in mass producing unless you have a lot of clients who aren't too bothered about the finish.

The 30 min figure that I mentioned was after the blank was cut, drilled etc. It was for the turning, sanding and finishing.

Well you are not saving a lot of time Tiger as I only take around 40 minutes for those stages to get it pretty right without rushing.
