but I thinks that will be good to share it with all of you.
Most important it was free for me I found all hardware in my workshop and it works well.
Please see pic. and I will be more than happy to answer any question.

Nice jig Ricardo. Better get a couple of these to hold it down to the drill press table, as it is too dangerous to hand hold these things when drilling.

Thanks Pariss, sure, i should mention it, a couple of clamps will hold it to the table.
    Thanks again for your comment.

Nice jig Ricardo and nice use of some recycled decking.

You are calling it a centering jig, but from what I can see it is more of a blank holding jig for drilling, it doesn't actually centre the blank under the drill bit, or do I see that wrong?

It is a form of clamp, but then the clamp needs to be centered to the centre of the drill bit.
Where as a self centering clamp is set in a fixed position centre to the drill bit and when you change blanks it self centres

    Cheers
    Tony.

I guess you'll need BOTH hands to hold this while drilling on the lathe

    Default Pen blank drilling jig

    NEWLondon88 :

You don't need BOTH hand, you need 2 clamp, and you don't drill on the lathe, is that a joke ?
And most important is a bit of imagination or commonsense, don't you think ?

    Regards.
    Ricardo.

Dear oh dear some people shouldn't be allowed in a workshop.
This jig is simple and with a little imagination can be adapted for a multitude of applications, thanks Ricardo

Nice jig, looks like it works better than the commerical ones.
And yes, you can drill on the lathe, I drill almost all of my blanks that way.
Round the blank over, chuck it up and put a Jacobs chuck in the tail stock and drill....works great.
If you think about it, a drill press is nothing but a lathe stood on end...or a lathe is a drill press laid on its side.
Nova, (Teknatool) makes a special set of chuck jaws just for drilling square blanks on the lathe.
The real test is, what works best for you?
Find the method you like best and go with that!
