I'm frustrated
I have been using polyurethane glue and lately it is pooping out the brass tubes on me
.
It has not been an issue yet but it is frustrating I really do not want to have to rap them in tape every time.
Sorry just needed to vent my frustrationCheers Rum Pig

i have been using thick CA for glueing in the tubes with no problems at all, i was saving the polyurathane for any ugly looking burls but i might give it a miss thanks for the heads up

Poly Glue
As a devotee I use all glue very freely, dont mind the occasional pop out easy fixed by periodic checking in the early stages of setting to pop them back only occurs one in fifty, also a task I perform indoors preferably in the house to make it easy to check.
Taking a hint from SWMBO with all glue I remove the top and use short skewers to apply the glue and replace the top, place the container upside down until next session.
Works for me.
Regards Peter.

I use skewer as well I normal squirt it into a bottle top or the bottom of a soft drink can and top up as required. I normally do my glue ups at night so I do not have a 3 yr old wanting to help
And then it is off to bed so checking is out but I will start to use tape i think.
I had 1 push out about 7mm once so i cut the tube off and glued it back in the other endCheers Rum Pig

One of the things with polyurethane glue is that moisture helps it to go off, I usually spray a small amount of water inside the tubes before inserting the glued up tube ,once in place I will spray the ends again this helps to get the glue set on the ends a bit quicker and keep things in place ,again I tend to try and drill my blanks as close to the tube size as possible this also helps stop things moving around ,works for me so far

I prefer to use the 15 minute epoxy from Gary Pye. And never had a failure. I think the polyurethane is too messy and I've had too many failures with CA. I swab the blank out with a cotton bud dipped in metho and rough up the tube with sand paper.

I only use CA on my pens, but first I rough up the tube a bit to give the glue something to bind into, and I also place a couple of drops inside the blank before inserting the tube.
I try and do new things twice.. the first time to see if I can do it.. the second time to see if I like it

The best solution for problems attendant with poly glues is to stop using them.
I do not like or use poly for my pens because of all the problems, including storage.
I use two part epoxy almost exclusively and intend to stay with it.

I use the poly on wood and have had no tube poop out
but I tend to check fairly regularly
I use epoxy on acrylics
tend to use the 24 hour as it gives me a greater glue up time
I've had the 5minute set whilst inserting the final tube (in a series)
I sometimes use a skewer but prefer a chopstick - I tend to grab a few extra when getting takeawayregards
