JET Engine Repair
As mentioned in another thread, my Jet crashed and all tests indicated to me that I had a short in the motor, the safety switch would blow instantly.
So I took off the Motor and started pulling it apart, however halfway through I realized I needed an Allen key size that wasn't in the kit. Down to Bunnings get a kit and finished puuling it completely apart.
As you can see from the photos, it had arced from one of the brush holder terminals to ground, it had also formed a carbon track in the bakelite so that a superficial cleaning of the arc wasn't good enough.
I drilled out the burnt bit and a little extra, filled it with 5 minute epoxy, when dry, reinstalled, and put the insulation tester on it, passed ok.
Reassembled motor, insulation tested again, ok, so mounted motor and now it is a goer.
While it was apart I dismantled the electronics and fully soldered the complete electronics board, also replaced 6 electrolytic capacitors that looked worse for wear.

Wheelinround, because the motor is earthed all current went to earth and therefore blew the earth leakage protector switch, if a fuse had been it the line that would have blown, so in that way it is safe, as for the repair, it is going well now, used it this afternoon, Amos

Well done Amos
It sure helps fault finding when you have the knowledge and the correct equipment.
This is also a reminder to me to clean out my motor as I have turned a few of the M3 blanks of which the dust will be cnductive.

I think my motor would have lasted had i kept it "dry". I decided to spray Penetrene on the guides and some went on the motor and seeped in forming a conductive path to ground. Amos

Good thing you are an electrical specialist. That would have cost one of us ordinary folks money.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
