    Default leather

i had an order for a leather journal cover so i thought i would extend it a little with a few scraps of chrome tanned leather off cuts

19mm wad punch to cut out the circles then a 7mm wad punch to make them into leather washers, well thats what everyone thought i was making

the bits on either end are Red Gum, this was used mainly to compress the leather in the vice

leather is fibrous and flexible, it takes very sharp tools to cut if not stabilized, i didn't stabilize until i got close to the final size, CA glue works well for this

i was happy with the result although a bit rough, but i will give it another go on the weekend to get a better result, might even try with some veg tanned leather to see if that works better

    thanks for looking
    MIK

Depending on the leather, you could add some honing paste and get a polished finish on your turnong tools as you shape the blank......lol.

Very impressive, certainly pushing the boundries.

I got a leather pen in one of the past pen swaps. It was left unfinished and has worn nicely. I like the look of it finished with CA though... looks like a section of pool cue... might have to retire one of the wifes old belts while she's out at sea
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.
