I was sitting here, wondering why you didn't "get it." You're obviously a smart lass and it's soooo obvious. Then DJ made his post...

Ain't it funny how we not only assume that everyone knows these things, but that we accept them at such a basic level we don't even give them a moment's thought?
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Lack of experience and potential brain lock. All I have done so far is slimlines and those couple of classics that I made up my own mandrel for .

I have seen mention of stepped bushings for some kits, but I guess I was thinking about what I have in the light of "no mandrel" which are the slimlines and, no, that method wouldn't work for those.

I need MORE kits and a wider variety of styles and certainly MORE experience ).

I'm slow, but very, very thorough !

    Hi Fox

I cut my teeth on slimlines but once I started on high end kits for which you need the stepped bushes for the challenge then came from assembling them in the right order. I love the high end kits and when you put a nicely figured timber with them you then start to see how good they look.

And when you give one away people are really impressed with them and certainly value them more than if you gave them a plain old expensive Parker or MontBlanc pen.

Because of the wobble you get with the mandrel I can't wait until I can get an old style 60 degree dead centre and a 60 degree live centre to try out Darren's No Mandrel Set Up.

For those wondering, you can get the dead centre and live centre from McJing in the engineering section.

I got the metal lathe ones as the tips are carbide and will stand up to more abuse then the woodturning ones
    Cheers
