Mangrove sierra
From a piece of mangrove (Avicennia marina) driftwood that washed up on the coast where I live, no more than 50m. from my front door, thats the way to have blanks delivered.

I don't know what the laws are on removing mangrove, even driftwood mangrove in South Australia, but I know that you can not remove any living or dead mangrove in Queensland. Just be careful mate if there are any people that lean the green way. Might have to give it a different name. In saying that, it has an amazing colour and has a great fit and finish.
Cheers

Hmm, thanks for that, mykpenturner mentioned this as well in another thread. The driftwood in question was a stick probably about 600mm long 60mm at the thick end tapering down to about 20mm, so I would think it would be a fairly pedantic officer to ping a bloke for that. Not to say it wouldn't happen. The sort of thing you would pick up and use as a walking stick to poke around with.
I appreciate the heads up and will look into what is allowed, cheers, seriola.

Seriola,
Pens made from timber such as yours have character and your pen has it together with a neat colouring. Well done.
Years ago I received some from the Everglades in the States a rare according to the label colour form not unlike yours. A couple of years ago I received timber from Qld coast Monkey Puzzle tree for all the world identical in lightness and grain to Red Cedar indeed they are closely related.
Thankyou for showing and I am in the line for that coloured Coral in fact tomorrow there is a Gem Affair I will attend solely for that reason.
Kind regards from a fellow Sand Groper.

Lucky find and beautiful pen!
Talking of driftwood I have a piece of what looks like Hairy oak that turned up in a load of tumbled sandstone gravel. Put it aside for later attention.

Certainly some nice colours going on there
If anyone asks where you got the wood from, just tell them from an aquarium shop, they sell mangrove roots all the time. I still have a few from Darwin when we cleared heaps for a new freeway, with the necessary enviro clearances/permits, for table stands I was making at the time.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
