A Mountain of Sierra's
It seems that the inspiration comes in bunches. Wanted to try the Sierra kits and got carried away. A pen turned into a mountain of pens. For your viewing enjoyment, here are a few that I have done, all with the CA finish. If we are voting, I like the click Sierra's. I think I matched two of them quite well, or not.
Pen 1 in the mountain range is Gmelina arborea, 2 is desert ironwood, 3 is pink ivory, 4 is chittham burl(smoketree), 5 is afzelia xylay, 6 is amboyna, 7 is buckeye burl (my favorite of the group), 8 is zircote, and 9 is red mallee. See what you think, Russ

Fantastic assortment, Russ. Number nine doesn't look like red mallee to me. Number 6 is my absolute favorite. That's a stunner! But, a job well done on all of them. You should be proud.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Wowee. Fantastic pens also I have no Red Mallee like No 9, incidently the pens all have their own character. you sure selected your timbers carefully cause it shows.

Russ,
Excellent collection! Are you sure that 9 isn't brown mallee? I have never heard of Gmelina arborea or smoketree....very appealing.

Rick, the red mallee was sold as a large burl cap and the discription was red mallee. As for the Gmelina arborea, I found on e-bay and looked interesting. In the "Useful woods of the world", No. 127, it says it is a member of the mint family and somtimes called gumhar or yemane, found in southeast asia from india to vietman

Nice clutch of pen you have done the blanks proud. As Peter says I don't have any red malee like that one either
