howdy doody
i have a customer thatt wishes to have their name placed on the side of a pen
has anyone tried those letters that come on clear plastic which when you rub on them they transfere to the item it is pressed against. i think these would work well after being covered with a CA finish, that is if the CA doesnt melt them.
the other choice is engraving but there is no one around here with a laser engraver
any other ideas
thanks in advance

Don't know where you are,but sometimes jewellers can do them and many key cutters and minor repairers you find in shopping centres sometimes do it as well.good luck with it
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Names on Pens
Hey Mik,
Amos is the Man, he is close to you, Closer than me (WA) I get them done at an Engraver's and he charges me $5.00 each, that's cheaper than buying my own machine, ($2,500.00 Minimum) Amos can help there as well, (I think he still sells them??) if you use a darker timber, once it is engraved you get some gold Rub 'n' Buff from Spotlight (Craft Shop) rub that in it makes a $27.50 pens into a $35-40 pens, they look mint.

thanks for all the offer guys
i had to give it a try anyway and yes it does melt the plastic or whatever it is those pesky little letters are made out of,
do you realise how hard it is to get them wrapped around a pen for starters and get them to stick with out breaking apart
lets just say that there is 3 Z's on a sheet and now there is none
i think that if i had of just put a coat of CA on and not rub it up and down to smooth it out then all would have been sweet, only a couple of letters left streaks around the pen, not all of them, but anyway i am out of Z's and SUZIE without a Z just wouldn't cut the mustard
i have sent a PM to Amos to enlist his expert abilities in this field, did i suck up good enough???
thanks again

Haven't done it myself but wonder if a seal coat of shellac or even water based poly wouldn't stabilize the print? Try it on a scrap. There is also a product called a "fixative" that artists use over charcoal sketches to keep it from smearing. My daughter had some for her artwork and I used it on some inkjet printed labels and it prevented them from smearing when touched. Over here we have hobby stores (Michaels and Hobby Lobby) that sell it in aerosol cans.

Can't go past laser engraving for pen bodies. Very neat and clean, and for multiples, being computer controlled, all identical.
