Thread: Pen for a friend

a friend who makes duck calls dropped me off a box of walnut a couple of weeks ago and then earlier this week he dropped me off a bag of red mallee burl off cuts that were too small for duck calls, there is a lot of pens in what is to small for duck calls

my dad always told me never burn the bridges behind you, so i decided to make him a pen out of the wood he dropped off

the red mallee looks pretty well brown to me but there is places which have the dark red in it as well

the walnut and red mallee burl seem to compliment each other pretty well

i made him a segmented cigar and a segmented secret compartment key ring

both are finished with 6 coats of BLO/CA
