Still playing around
with lighting and backgrounds. Also still learning about post production techniques.
The pen is not one of mine, it is an Ultra Cigar in Rose Sheoak that I received from Darren (bdar) in a previous pen swap on TPS.
First shot is on a white glossy perspex background
Second shot is on some swirl glass (SWMBO is in to leadlight), wanted to the effect of something like that
Lighting is from the 2 CFL's only, using the light tent
As always, comments welcome.

First one looks a bit light, but the second one,
This is based on matching the gold and trim not the timber, even though the timber looks pretty close from I have seenCheers

The second is properly in focus, and I like the background. Many people seem to poo poo textured background, but I think it can show interest as long as you can still see the pen clearly.
Not sure why the first is out of focus, DOF shouldn't be it, as the range isn't that great, so either some camera shake, or more likely the AF didn't get it right due to the plain white background.

I prefer simple plain backgrounds
but I think your second piccy looks sensational - the little reflection off the background surface also looks good
first piccy seems to be out of focus - I've noticed that there are problems with focussing where the background is a little shiny/reflective and monochromatic.regards

Very nice photography. I like the second pic. Nice pen too.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Second one definitely. Looks terrific.
Reality is no background music.
