nice looking blank, has great possibilities

looks like those long skinny not pine cone things that are about 12" long, my best description, i think someone once told that it was a Norfolk Pine Tree (not sure)

if you were worried about losing the design by turning further, then just by rounding the center parts of the blanks would have made it look much better, the biggest problem i see is that it has those sharp edges near the center band and the small flat section that can be seen that is not polished like the rest of the pen

No troubles MIK,
The bands are 11.3mm and I think I stopped at 12mm.
thought a half mil on each side would not be noticeable.
But once you see the picture it looks a lot more noticeable than when in the hand.

I may still take apart and clean up those ends.

Yeah those are the things, 12 inch long stretched out pine cones, about half inch thick.

I cast it with 4 sticks in the mould so the tube actually runs runs down the centre of the 4.
the turning took most of the 4 away and I was getting to the last part of the sticks.

Actually when I cut the ends of the blank the pattern there was just as nice.

Dream stealer!! They are Norfolk island pine fronds. I have been thinking of casting those for years!!!

if you try it again with these not pine cones(sounds like a good name for them), i would try it with 5 in the one mold, 4 in the center and one in the middle up side down in comparison to the other 4, they should interlock, which will give more of the texture

they would probably be good chopped into small piece and thrown into the mold as well, alas, so many possibilities and so little time

Yes NIP fronds, similar to the ones I cast a few years back (https://www.woodworkforums.com/f69/cast-nip-fron-109125/), but yours seam lighter and perhaps not as old.
