    Talking I like slimline

    Hey yall
    Just finished this pen today.
Yall might me familler with the wood it's lacewood. Boy that stuff is very flacky. I had to use ca then mm then shellawax just to get it smooth.
I realy like the slimline style ya do not have to follow any rules or sizes. I know alot of yall do not like the designes that I come up with, but a lot of yall do. I just realy like letting the wood do the talking and tell me what it wants to be.
I am going to try a Mont Blank style this week, never done one, I guess I should read how to do it.
Thanks for looking and commentes are allways welcom good/bad

Gee you putting out some nice pens. Jude, I have never made a shape pen my question is with the curves in how do they feel to write all day? Do the ridges dig in? I am not picking I am wondering

Before I am finished with turning I take the blank out and hold it. It has to feel good in my hands before I finish it. It is like a comfort grip ya pay for in some stores a slight curve before the end.
I use my pens evey day for papper work, and I got alot, and they feel fine to me. Most of my coustmers are supprised how they feel.
I know ya ain't diggen at me.

I like your turning, but I'm undecided about that kit.

Yep. I do the same... I've found it's the bottom half of the lower barrel that's the important part, the bit where the tips of the fingers sit. If that's comfortable to hold the rest of the pen can be almost any shape; if someone grips the pen tight enough for the top to "dig in," they're not holding it in a way they can write with it... throw it at someone, yes, but not write with it.

(I'm one of the ones who likes your style. Probably 'cos I do much the same thing. )
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Jude I like customising slimlines myself, I don't do a heavy form of customising and generally make it symetrical and I drop the center band from the design to allow for even more design oppertunity. As for the kit I like the black plating, but does limit timber choices, like to Cocobolo, Bocote, Ebony, Kingwood, Purpleheart, Osage Orange or Lignum for a striking contrast maybe and one that would look good would be Holly, for the black and white effect. The Lacewood does do the plating justice. I am not knocking your choice of timber Jude, it is a lovely piece. This is just my opinion and others will happily disagree to what I have said, but for a strong plating such as Black, Black Ti and Gold Ti I like to see richly coloured timbers with a grain to complement or a plain grain with a strong colour for contrasting effect. Once again this is just my likes and what I look for when matching platings to timbers. You have done a great job in customising and your finishing looks good from where I am looking. Keep doing what you're doing.

Thanks for all the great things.
I do agree that I used the wrong kit as far as color buuuuut I ran out of everthing just ordered some more a sec. ago.
I do like to make them without the centerband but on this one I was going for more of a girlish figure so it needed the center.
    Thanks again
