Weekend work
Being a newbie to the site I'm not sure whether I've submitted this in the right area so apologies if I've crossed any lines.
I thought I'd try a some new materials as another experiment. I managed to get my hands on some Roe deer antler and also found some Polymer plastic modeling clay in the local craft shop.
I coated the clay with CA to get a shine after baking, turning and sanding. Turned out ok, but it's one for the kids I think.
The results you can see in the photos.
I used 5min epoxy mixed with metal powder for the centre band rings which turned out quite successful (using CA initially was a messy disaster!).
The good thing is I'm learning all the time and having a great time.Regards
Martin

Looking good, also looks like you're having fun experimenting.
Your epoxy and metal powder got me to thinking how JB Weld would work...
Cheers!
MatthewWood. Such a wonderful substance.

Nice pens. I have tried this with CA but it is as you say messy and slow. I have not tried epoxy.

So is that a Pen Turning joke? "apologies if I've crossed any lines". You Pen Turners sure come up with interesting mixes of mediums. Good looking pens though.

Nice pens... might have to try that style with a slimline myself. I like the variation in thickness between the barrels.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

What we may like and what sells is often worlds apart! just have to get the right balance so we can earn enough to buy what we want to make. Amos
